Voltage, Frequency and Plug/Outlet Type in Egypt
The outlets in Egypt are 2 pronged outlets. The pictures below show the regular wall socket and two different types of power plugs that exist.
If you want to use electrical equipment, please bring with you a universal adapter otherwise you won’t be able to plug in. Please see below pictures for what the adapter looks like.
It is important to remember that these kind of adapters do not convert or change the voltage itself.
The electricity in Egypt is 220 Volts - 240 Volts, 50 Hertz – In comparison, it is the same in most the Middle Eastern countries.
WARNING: In the US, the electricity is 110 Volts, 60 Hertz. What this means is that unless you have a dual voltage power supply, your electrical appliance will blow up if plugged into the outlet if it is only rated at 110 Volts.
All laptops have a dual power supply (or at least 99% of laptops) so this shouldn't be a problem. Appliances such as blow dryers, iPod chargers, phone chargers etc. will have to be checked before they are plugged in. You can read the specs. on the power supply itself. In case of doubt, please don’t plug them in, just ask someone to check them for you.
